1. Backyard Discovery Somerset All Cedar Wood Playset Swing Set

Backyard Discovery Somerset All Cedar Wood Playset Swing Set

When it comes to backyard playsets and swing sets, no one makes them quite like Backyard Discovery.

This company has a long history of making the best quality play structures for children, both regarding the overall sturdiness as well as amount of fun your kids can have.

The Somerset Wood Swing Set is a perfect example of the brand’s commitment to excellence. This swing set is one of the more basic models that Backyard Discovery offers (as you’ll see), but even still, it has a lot of cool features that you and your kids will love.

Starting with the material, which is 100% cedar wood. When it comes to play structures, you want them to last as long as possible, and cedar wood is one of the best materials to use for that purpose. What I like about all of Backyard Discovery’s structures is that they have two stories, so your kids can use their imaginations and spend a lot of time climbing and getting much-needed exercise.

The bottom level of the Somerset is open, but there is a snack window and a built-in bench for your kids to use. To climb to the top level, your child can either use the standard ladder or a rock climbing wall to get a bit of a challenge. Once at the upper level, your children can use the integrated wavy slide or pretend that they are a lookout.

The roof of this particular model is made of canvas, which is specially treated to withstand the elements. On the side of the main structure is the swing set, which offers three swings total. Two of them are your typical bench swings, but in the middle is a trapeze for your kids to practice their circus skills. Overall, this is a great way to get your kids to play outside.

Highlighted Features

  • 100% cedar wood constructionTwo levels of fun
  • Bottom level has a snack window and bench
  • Top level has access to the slideRoof is covered in canvas
  • Ladder or rock climbing wall provides access to top level
  • Three swings on the side of the structureTwo bench swings and a trapeze
  • Meets all health and safety standards

2. Backyard Discovery Prairie Ridge All Cedar Wood Playset Swing Set

Backyard Discovery Somerset All Cedar Wood Playset Swing Set

Editor Rating:

Although the Somerset Swing Set was an excellent introduction into what Backyard Discovery can offer, the company specializes in creating some of the most impressive swing and play sets I’ve ever seen.

If you want something that’s a bit more deluxe than the Somerset, then the Prairie Ridge Swing Set is the way to go.

To be honest, this particular model is very similar to the Somerset, but it does have one important addition that your kids are sure to love. First of all, it’s also made of 100% cedar wood, which is treated to withstand the elements and last for years.

As far as the main structure itself, the centerpiece is almost identical to the Somerset with a snack window and bench on the bottom, canvas roof and a slide on top, and a ladder to get to the upper level. The biggest difference between Prairie Ridge and Somerset is the addition of a set of monkey bars.

Whereas the Somerset had a rock climbing wall to get to the top, your kids can instead use the monkey bars to gain access to the upper level. The swing set on Prairie Ridge is identical to the Somerset model as well, coming with two bench swings and a trapeze for your kids to swing like Tarzan.

Highlighted Features

  • 100% cedar wood construction
  • Two levels of fun
  • Bottom level has a snack window and built-in bench
  • Top level has a wavy slideLadder access to upper level
  • Monkey bars on one side also give access to top level
  • Canvas roof
  • Swing set on the side with three swings
  • Two bench swings and a trapeze
  • Meets all health and safety standards

Next, we have yet another winner from Backyard Discovery, the Tucson Swing Set.

Unlike the Somerset and Prairie Ridge models, this particular swing set is more open and doesn’t have as much wood for the main structure.

Regardless, it still offers a lot of fun for your children and will be a great addition to any backyard. As with all Backyard Discovery products, the Tucson Swing Set is made with 100% cedar wood that will last for years to come.

The main structure of this set is more open, but it still has two levels of fun for your kids to enjoy. The bottom level has an integrated sandbox (sand not included) and a built-in bench. The upper level is accessed via a ladder and gives your kids an amazing view as well as access to the eight-foot wavy slide.

On the side of the structure is the swing set, which has three swings as well. Two of them have bucket seats, and the middle swing is a set of rings that are attached to a plastic bar, making it sort of a hybrid of a trapeze and gymnastic rings.

  • Roof is two-tiered and made of canvas

Moving on, we now come to the Alpine Custom Swing Set.

What’s interesting about this particular model is that it does not come with any wood, so you will have to cut all of your lumber yourself and build it according to the specifications provided.

If you want something that is easy to assemble, you will do better getting a Backyard Discovery Swing Set, but the Alpine can be a great option for any aspiring carpenters out there who want the pleasure of building something from scratch.

Nonetheless, assuming that you can get all of the lumber you need, the Alpine Custom Swing Set has a lot of great features for your children to love. Like the Backyard Discovery models, there is a primary two-level structure and a swing set that is attached to the side. The main structure has a sandbox at the bottom (sand not included) and a wavy slide at the top.

What’s also important to note is that you will also need to buy a custom slide to install into this unit. Access to the upper level is provided by a rope ladder, and the roof is made of sturdy canvas. As for the swing set itself, there are four swings for your children to play on.

Two of them are standard belt swings, one of them has a bucket seat, and the last one is a two-person glider. The glider sits on the very end for safety reasons.

Finally, we come to the Flexible Flyer Fun Fantastic II Swing Set (try saying that five times fast).

Flexible Flyer is a great company that specializes in top-quality swing sets, and the Fantastic II is a perfect example.

This set has everything your kids will need to have a great time playing in the backyard, even if it doesn’t have a wooden structure to accompany the swings. The main frame of the Fantastic II is made of high-quality steel which is powder coated to prevent rust and keep it in working order for a long time.

What makes this set so awesome is the fact that it not only comes with five swing options, but it also has a built-in slide and a see-saw. In fact, you can have up to nine children playing on this set at once without even violating the weight limit. When it comes to the swings themselves, your kids have plenty of options. There is a two-person glider, a set of gymnastic rings, two standard belt swings, and a combination swing that you can either sit or stand on while in use.

The material for the swings is heavy duty plastic which is treated both for health and safety standards and to prevent fading over time, so your swing set will look like new for years to come.

Final Verdict

When trying to find the best swing set for your kids, I would recommend a set that has a play structure for your children to climb on and use for all kinds of pretend activities. If your kids are anything like mine, they have incredible imaginations and love to use a play structure for tons of different playtime activities.

That being said, I would highly recommend either the Tucson or Prairie Ridge models, since they have the most to offer. I do also like the Somerset model since it has a rock climbing wall, and my kids do love to climb. If you want a more straightforward swing set, however, nothing beat Flexible Flyer.

I like the fact that that model comes with so many options for your kids and enables them to have friends over without anyone needing to fight for a swing.
